“Caminos de Esperanza – Talita Kumi” Foundation
The Institution “TALITA KUMI” was born due to the concern for young girls and teenagers who lack equal opportunities. Its main focus is to build a host network for these girls and young women who are living at risk, have been victims of abuse inside or outside their families, sexual abuse, social marginalization, rejection, exploitation, persecution and neglect.
The institution seeks to support teenagers who are facing difficult situations inside or outside their families, and who would not be able to overcome them on their own, and for that reason they would be exposed to the risks of being out on the street. The Foundation also seeks to develop integral training of the young girls in order to achieve their reintegration to society.
Currently, there are two “Talita Kumi” houses. “TK I” provides a limited stay while the personal situation of the girls is clarified. Many of them can be reintegrated into their families or get a job; nevertheless, others need long-term personal support, so they stay in “TK II”, where an educational process composed of three areas is developed: personal training, primary and secondary school training in regular or distance education mode, and basic and flexible higher education that consists of recreational activities and training in a supportive and violence free coexistence.
Nowadays, “Talita Kumi” hosts approximately 40 your girls and teenage mothers in the two houses.
